About the Role

Are you passionate about youth sports and helping children develop healthy, active lifestyles?

Newington Community Primary School is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated PE Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant school community this September. In this role, you will work directly alongside our Lead PE Teacher to deliver high-quality physical education, inspire a lifelong love for movement, and ensure every child has the support they need to succeed in sports and fitness.

You will be joining a supportive environment where physical literacy is highly valued, helping to shape a safe, active, and fun environment across all primary key stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • PE Teacher Support: Work closely with the Lead PE Teacher to set up, deliver, and pack away engaging physical education lessons across a variety of sports.

  • Targeted Coaching: Support individual pupils or lead small groups during lessons to help differentiate learning, ensuring children of all abilities can actively participate and improve.

  • Active Playtimes: Help organize and lead structured, active playground games during lunch and break times to keep children moving and engaged.

  • Extracurricular Clubs: Assist with after-school sports clubs, school team trials, and fixtures against local schools.

About You

  • Experience working with primary-aged children (in a school, sports club, or community setting).

  • A genuine passion for sports, fitness, and child development.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and inspire young learners.

  • A collaborative mindset, ready to take direction from and work seamlessly with the PE Teacher.

  • A relevant qualification in sports coaching or education support (desirable, but your attitude and passion matter most).

Why Join Newington?

At Newington Community Primary School, we pride ourselves on creating an environment where both our staff and pupils can thrive. Working directly with our PE Teacher, you will benefit from a supportive team atmosphere, great facilities, and the rewarding opportunity to make a tangible impact on the health and well-being of our wonderful children.
