Oaklands School is seeking a committed and experienced Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated SEND provision. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities in a nurturing, structured environment. 

The Role 

You will work within a small, dedicated SEND classroom, supporting pupils’ learning, development and wellbeing throughout the school day. The role includes a leadership element, overseeing and guiding other support staff to ensure high-quality provision and consistency for pupils. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support the delivery of planned lessons and learning activities within the SEND classroom 
  • Lead and coordinate the work of other support staff in the class 
  • Assess, monitor and contribute to pupils’ progress and achievement 
  • Provide tailored support to meet a range of SEND needs 
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing 
  • Support with all aspects of the classroom day, including routines, transitions and personal care where appropriate 
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SEND team to implement individual support plans 

The Ideal Candidate 

  • Has experience working with SEND pupils, ideally within a SEND classroom setting 
  • Will have Level 3 TA Qualification 
  • Is confident supporting learning, assessment and progress tracking 
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills 
  • Can take initiative and confidently lead and support other staff 
  • Is patient, flexible and committed to inclusive education 

Information about the school

Oaklands School is a Good school ( July 2023 report ) with results which are at or above national averages. We are a two form entry primary school situated in Walderslade.

The school is set in extensive grounds and is well resourced, including our own swimming pool offering swimming from Year R through to Year 6, a Forest School, our very own training kitchen, Art Room, Science Lab, Running Track other superb opportunities for outside learning. We are a very inclusive school community and have our own sensory room and pathways.
