St Nicholas CEVC Primary School is looking for an enthusiastic, caring and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team from September 2026. This role will involve covering classes across the school, delivering high-quality learning experiences and supporting children to achieve their very best.

We are looking for someone who will embrace our Christian vision, bring warmth, positivity and high expectations to our school community and become a valued part of our team. Relationships matter hugely at St Nicholas and we are looking for someone who will help create classrooms where children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Supporting the class teacher and/or SENCo in the teaching and welfare of children to enhance their learning needs
  • Teaching whole classes during PPA time and providing occasional cover during teacher absence
  • Delivering engaging and purposeful learning experiences across the primary age range
  • Supporting children of all abilities to achieve their full potential
  • Promoting high expectations for behaviour, learning and wellbeing
  • Working effectively as part of a supportive and collaborative team
  • Contributing positively to the wider life of the school community

The successful applicant will be flexible, organised and confident leading classes across a range of year groups. They will have strong communication skills, work well as part of a team and demonstrate a genuine passion for supporting children both academically and personally.

We can offer you:

  • Fantastic children who are caring, enthusiastic and eager to learn
  • A happy, hardworking and friendly staff team
  • Leaders who are approachable, supportive and who will work alongside you every step of the way
  • A welcoming and inclusive school community where relationships matter
  • Opportunities to develop professionally as part of a growing school
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children every day

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a school where children are at the heart of every decision and staff are genuinely known and valued.

The best way to understand St Nicholas is to come and see it for yourself. We warmly welcome visits and would love to show you around our school.

Information about the school

St Nicholas CEVC Primary School is a growing and ambitious Church of England school at the heart of the Strood community. Having opened as a through primary school in September 2024, we continue to grow year on year and are excited to welcome our first Year 6 class in September 2026. Joining St Nicholas now offers a unique opportunity to help shape a school that is still developing and evolving, where staff genuinely have a voice and can make a real difference to the lives of our children and families.

At St Nicholas, we believe every child has the God-given potential to grow, shine and flourish into something great. Our Christian vision sits at the heart of everything we do:

“With faith as small as a mustard seed we become STARs, nothing is impossible” – Matthew 17:20

We nurture children spiritually, academically and personally so they become STARs by learning to Strive, Trust, Achieve and Respect. Alongside our caring ethos, we are deeply committed to high expectations, excellent teaching and ensuring every child achieves their full potential.

Our children are kind, enthusiastic and genuinely love being part of St Nicholas. Staff work hard to create an environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to do their very best. There is a genuine family feel throughout the school, supported by strong links with St Nicholas Church and the wider community.

Our recent SIAMS inspection recognised the strength of our vision and culture, stating:

“Leaders and governors create a culture where pupils and adults are known, accepted, respected and valued for who they are.”

We are incredibly proud of this recognition and of the warm, committed team we have built together. Staff wellbeing and professional development matter at St Nicholas, and collaboration sits at the heart of our practice. As a growing school, there are exciting opportunities to lead, develop and help shape future practice.
