Are you an experienced HLTA who is passionate about inspiring, motivating and supporting pupils?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support autistic children in our Specialist Resource Provision (SRP).

We are seeking to permanently appoint a practitioner experienced in supporting children with barriers to learning and Autism, and with the motivation and positivity to get the best outcomes for our SRP pupils.

The SRP HLTA will work under the direction and guidance of the SRP Lead Teacher. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting autistic children to successfully access all learning activities in the SRP and mainstream classrooms and will be willing to make a positive contribution to the life of our school.

The role is for 16.25 hours per week (3.25 hours on a Wednesday from 12.30pm – 3.45pm and 6.5 hours each day on a Thursday and Friday, 8.45am to 3.45pm), 38 weeks per year (term time only). The pay scale is Kent Scheme D at £26,393 per annum for a full-time position, which equates to approximately £9,844 per annum pro rata for this role, plus a SEN allowance of £770.69, pro rata to £1,541.40 per annum. The total annual salary for this role is therefore approximately £10,614.69.

We require a good standard of general education and GCSE qualifications or equivalent in English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above. We also require you to hold a HLTA qualification.

Verification of qualifications will be required before employment can commence so please do not declare any qualifications unless you can produce the original certificate. 

A formal 30 minute interview will take place with a panel comprising of members of the Senior Leadership Team. Candidates will also be required to lead a 30 minute social communication and interaction activity with a small group of lower KS2 children.

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery continues to be a ‘Good’ school with an ‘Outstanding’ judgement in Personal Development, as recognised in our latest Ofsted inspection (November 2023). The inspection found that, ‘pupils behave and concentrate very well in this warm and inclusive school’ and that, ‘the school carefully considers staff workload and well-being.’

We are a large four form entry school to the west of Margate with approximately 720 pupils. We aim to provide a caring, exciting and inclusive learning environment where every child and family really matters with a focus on raising standards alongside the development of the whole child. The school’s values are Perseverance, Aspiration, Respect and Teamwork and all children are familiar with these.

We are a school with a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) for Physically Disabled pupils, a KS1 and KS2 satellite class from Foreland Fields School and a further SRP for pupils with Autism.

We are a part of an established Cooperative Trust (Thanet Endeavour Learning Trust), working with Bromstone Primary School, Parkside Community Foundation Primary School and St Mildred’s Primary Infant School. We work closely within our Trust to improve all aspects of our practice, including CPD and support for ECTs.

Our large site comprises of a KS2 and a KS1 building, three large playgrounds and a school field and we continue to invest heavily in our outdoor learning environment which includes an inclusive play area and sports courts.
