Ripplevale School and College, is a thriving independent special school, for 170 students aged 6 to 25 years old, located in the historic town of Rochester. As part of the Ripplevale family of schools, we provide a holistic, child centred approach to meeting the needs of our students, most of whom have an Education and Health Care Plan. Identified needs may include Autism Spectrum Disorder, dyslexia, speech, language and communication difficulties, DCD, sensory, and high levels of anxiety.
 
Your new role
We are looking for an inspiring SEN Teacher with a Science specialism to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons across Key Stages 2–4, adapting your teaching to meet the varied needs, strengths and learning profiles of pupils with Autism, Dyslexia, and other additional needs.
You will:
  • Plan, deliver and assess high‑quality Science lessons that promote curiosity, independence and progress.
  • Tailor learning to individual needs, using strategies that support communication, sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work closely with colleagues, external professionals and families to maintain accurate pupil profiles and monitor progress.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and whole‑school initiatives, ensuring Science remains accessible, ambitious and meaningful for all learners.
  • Maintain positive behaviour expectations using a relationship‑centred, supportive approach.
  • Participate in CPD, standardisation activities and professional training to continuously grow your practice and support colleagues.
 
What you’ll need to succeed
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
  • A strong Science specialism, with the skills and confidence to teach Science across KS2–KS4.
  • Experience of working with pupils with SEND, particularly Autism and/or Dyslexia.
  • A proven ability to differentiate learning and adapt teaching for individual profiles.
  • Confident classroom management rooted in positive relationships and consistency.
  • A collaborative, reflective approach and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing, and holistic education.
  • Flexibility, resilience and a genuine passion for helping young people thrive.

The school is set in an historic Medway town and enjoys the outstanding community facilities and links that the towns of Chatham and Rochester have to offer.
