We are looking for a teaching assistant to join our team in the Phoenix Centre.  The centre is a specialist resource provision for 22 chidlren with autistic spectrum conditions.  Our teaching assistants aren't paint-pot pot washers; they are educators who make a huge difference to children's lives and futures.

You will work with chidlren in small groups in the centre, integrate with children into mainstream lessons, support at break and lunch to organise activities and play with the children and support the children with emotional regulation.    We are looking for high calibre people with excellent English and maths skills who will be able to lead children’s learning confidently, support behaviour and work extremely flexibly as part of a very high-performing team.  Resilience and a sense of humour are a must.

Prior experience as a teaching assistant and some knowledge of autism are desirable, but not essential for a person who is keen to learn with a positive attitude.

The successful applicant must:

  • Have good mathematics and English skills (Grade C or higher at GCSE or equivalent).
  • Have good behaviour management skills through previous experience with children in a setting other than their own home
  • Be able to communicate well with children, parents and colleagues.
  • Be willing to learn and develop skills to support children’s learning.
  • Be flexible and understand that plans change.
  • Be proactive in their approach to resources, plans and solving problems.
  • Have a commitment to the safeguarding of children.
  • Be punctual, conscientious and put children’s needs first.

When filling in your personal statement, please ensure that you address how your knowledge, skills and experience meet the requirements in the bullet points above.

If you would like to find about a little more about us, please contact Felicity O'Brine, Phoenix Centre Leader on 01732 354325 for a conversation or to arrange a visit.

Curriculum Vitae are NOT accepted as an alternative to a completed Application Form, if you have not been invited to an interview within two weeks of the closing date please consider your application was unsuccessful.
