Fixed Term Contract: Start Term 6 2026 – End of Term 6 2027

We are seeking a passionate, resilient and creative Class Teacher to join our dedicated team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a nurturing and supportive SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) special school environment where building strong relationships and engaging learners lies at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role

As a Class Teacher within our SEMH provision, you will:

  • Lead learning in a class of  eight Y5/6 pupils.
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, personalised learning that meets the diverse needs of pupils.
  • Create a safe, consistent and supportive classroom environment.
  • Work closely with our skilled multidisciplinary team, including support staff, therapists and behaviour specialists.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils, enabling them to develop confidence, resilience and positive learning behaviours.
  • Use creative, practical and therapeutic approaches to engage learners.
  • Work in partnership with families and external agencies.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified teacher (ECTs with suitable experience considered).
  • Has a genuine passion for working with children and young people with SEMH needs.
  • Brings creativity, flexibility and a trauma-informed approach to teaching.
  • Has excellent behaviour management strategies, underpinned by empathy and consistency.
  • Is committed to inclusion and improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
  • Works well as part of a supportive and collaborative team.

What We Offer

  • A highly supportive staff team and leadership who prioritise wellbeing.
  • Small class sizes with strong additional adult support.
  • Opportunities for professional development, including SEMH and behaviour training.
  • A positive, relationship-centred school culture where every child is valued.

Information about the school

St. Anthony’s is a designated KCC special school for pupils with an EHCP with a main need of SEMH and/or ASC in KS2 -KS4. We are a partner school in Kent Special Educational Needs Trust.

The school works to meet and support a wide range of barriers to learning. Our children and young people have high levels of social emotional issues and communication difficulties, staff need to be able to build positive relationships with them and provide a diverse and stimulating education, in a supportive and safe environment.

Most pupils come to the school with negative previous school experiences and traditionally from a background with high levels of deprivation. To achieve positive outcomes for our pupils we place a great deal of emphasis on individual programmes within small group settings. Ofsted reported in May that St Anthony's helps pupils to turn around their lives and re-engage with education.

We are a Thrive school.
