The Duke of York’s Royal Military School seeks to appoint a Pastoral Leader to join the House Pastoral Team. The successful candidate will exercise day-to-day operational responsibility for the efficient and effective running of their allocated House, ensuring that the welfare and needs of students are fully met. As a key member of the House Pastoral Team, the Pastoral Leader will be expected to make a full and appropriate contribution to the development of policies and practices that support the pastoral care and well-being of students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise regularly with the Housemaster/Mistress, keeping them informed and acting on initiative when appropriate.
  • Supervise students’ behaviour, hygiene, duties, and punctuality throughout the day.
  • Provide individual pastoral support, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive house environment. Accompany and supervise students during meals and daily routines.
  • Support students’ academic progress and behaviour by working closely with tutors and teaching staff.
  • Administer medication, provide basic first aid, and refer students to the Medical Centre when needed.
  • Care for unwell students and assist with medical appointments where required.
  • Monitor and maintain the House environment, reporting repairs and ensuring safety standards are met.
  • Assist in organising activities and ensure compliance with school policies and boarding standards.
  • Contribute to cleaning, housekeeping, and general duties, including holiday preparation and upkeep.

Further Information

This is a permanent position, primarily working during term time. The role is offered at a starting salary of £24,622 per annum (full-time equivalent), which equates to £18,578 pro rata, within pay band DYR3.11. The successful candidate will work 36.39 hours per week, following a shift rota that operates across seven days.

The post holder will play a key role in supporting the smooth and efficient running of their allocated House. This includes providing consistent pastoral care and ensuring that students’ welfare needs are met to a high standard, contributing to a safe, supportive, and well-managed residential environment.
