Teacher of Religious Education (0.8 – Full Time) - maternity cover

We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Teacher of Religious Education to join our ambitious and academically driven RE department from September 2026 on a maternity cover contract (0.8 to full time). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving department grounded in a rigorous, research‑based approach to teaching religion, philosophy and ethics.

About Our RE Department

Our curriculum is built on the principle articulated by John Stuart Mill:
“He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that.”
We therefore cultivate classrooms where students explore a diverse range of perspectives, learning not only what different worldviews teach but how to think deeply, critically, and intelligently about them.

Key Stage 3

Our broad and balanced KS3 curriculum gives equal attention to all six major world religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Non-Abrahamic religions are taught first, followed by Abrahamic religions, allowing for rich chronological understanding, interleaving, and critical comparison. This strong foundation enables students to progress confidently into philosophical enquiry, including work on epistemology and analytical reasoning.

Key Stage 4

At GCSE, students study Christianity alongside Buddhism, building independence through the development of secure study skills and effective evaluation. Our curriculum challenges students to think systematically and write with clarity and purpose.

Key Stage 5

We offer a rigorous A-Level course that gives equal weight to Philosophy, Ethics, and Christian Theology. Students engage with advanced academic literature and further refine their extended writing and critical evaluation skills in preparation for higher education.

Extended Curriculum

As part of the Langton Extended Curriculum, our department also leads:

  • The Philosophy IVE at KS4
  • The Philosophy Project and PPE Pathway at KS5

These programmes foster intellectual creativity and independent research into complex philosophical and ethical questions. Additionally, our enrichment activities, events, and trips ensure we deliver our statutory number of hours of RS per key stage.

We welcome applications from teachers who:

  • Are passionate about Religious Education, Philosophy, and Ethics.
  • Are committed to fostering deep intellectual engagement.
  • Bring creativity and clarity to the classroom.
  • Value a research-informed approach to teaching.
  • Are eager to contribute to wider curriculum enrichment.

Join Us

If you share our commitment to “kindling the flame” of independent thought and inquiry, we would be delighted to hear from you.
