Maple Haven is a small, nurturing independent SEND school providing high‑quality education and care for children and young people with a range of complex medical needs, learning disabilities, and associated additional needs. Our multidisciplinary team works closely to create a safe, inclusive, and highly supportive environment where every pupil can thrive.

The Role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. This role is particularly well suited to someone with experience (or a keen interest in developing experience) in:
  • Supporting pupils with regulation and emotional/behavioural needs
  • Working closely with children with complex medical needs and/or significant learning disabilities
  • Implementing personalised strategies to promote engagement, independence and positive outcomes

As part of our team, you will work under the direction of class teachers, therapists, and senior support staff to deliver high‑quality learning opportunities and uphold the school’s strong safeguarding culture.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with varying levels of need
  • Support pupils with regulation, co‑regulation and emotional wellbeing
  • Assist with the implementation of behaviour support plans and personalised strategies
  • Foster a calm, safe, and structured learning environment
  • Assist with medical or personal care tasks (training provided)
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and external professionals
  • Help prepare resources, maintain classroom organisation, and contribute to wider school life

About You
We are looking for someone who is:
  • Patient, empathetic, and child‑centred
  • Confident in supporting behaviour and emotional regulation (or willing to learn)
  • Able to remain calm and consistent during challenging moments
  • A strong communicator and positive role model
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Willing to undertake training related to medical needs, behaviour support, and SEND practice
Experience in a SEND setting is beneficial but not essential – training and mentoring will be provided for the right candidate.

What We Offer
  • A supportive and experienced staff team
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • A small, friendly, and collaborative school environment
  • The chance to make a real and lasting difference to children and young people

Information about the school

Maple Haven is a small, nurturing SEN school dedicated to supporting children and young people with a range of learning disabilities and speech, language, and communication needs. Our setting is built on the belief that every pupil deserves a learning environment where they feel understood, valued, and empowered to achieve their personal best.

At Maple Haven, we take a highly individualised approach to education. Our skilled multidisciplinary team, including SEND teachers, speech and language assistants, pastoral staff, and support assistants, works closely with each pupil to create a personalised programme that celebrates their strengths and supports their areas for development. Learning is delivered in small classes with high levels of adult support, enabling pupils to develop confidence, independence, and essential life skills at their own pace. Communication is at the heart of everything we do. We use a range of evidence-based approaches, such as visual supports, and structured language programmes, to ensure every pupil can access learning and express themselves in meaningful ways. Strong relationships, consistency, and a calm, predictable environment help pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to thrive.

Beyond academics, Maple Haven offers rich opportunities for social, emotional, and personal growth. Pupils engage in creative arts, physical development, community learning, and therapeutic activities that promote wellbeing and resilience. Families are valued as key partners, and we work collaboratively to ensure continuity between school and home.

Maple Haven is more than a school, it is a warm, inclusive community where every pupil is supported to learn, communicate, and flourish.
