Child Development & EYFS Practice

  • Deliver high‑quality learning in line with the EYFS, contributing to planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Provide stimulating, age‑appropriate activities that support all areas of development indoors and outdoors.
  • Maintain accurate observations, assessments and learning journals.
  • Support children with SEND and adapt practice to meet individual needs.

Key Person Duties

  • Act as key person for a small group of children, building positive relationships with families.
  • Share regular progress updates and attend Parent Evenings.
  • Handle all information with sensitivity and confidentiality.

Safeguarding, Health & Safety

  • Safeguard children at all times following nursery policies and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure a safe, secure environment and supervise children effectively.
  • Support hygiene routines, cleanliness, meals and snack times.
  • Follow policies on behaviour management, food safety, confidentiality and code of conduct.

Teamwork & Professional Standards

  • Work collaboratively to create a welcoming, inclusive environment.
  • Role‑model best practice and support new staff where required.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervisions and ongoing CPD.
  • Promote positive relationships with children, families, colleagues and visitors.
  • Reflect the diversity of the community in activities and interactions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support with setting up, maintaining and tidying resources and play areas.
  • Undertake light cleaning tasks as part of daily routines.
  • Carry out any reasonable duties requested by the Nursery Manager or Deputy.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Level 3 Early Years qualification.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND.
  • Strong understanding of EYFS and child development.
  • Experience working with young children in a nursery environment.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging learning opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Friendly, enthusiastic and professional attitude.
  • Smart, professional appearance.

Desirable

  • Paediatric First Aid qualification.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding best practice.
