Fortis Trust is seeking to appoint an inspirational and forward-thinking Subject Lead for Science and Land Studies to join the leadership of curriculum development at Bradfields Academy.

This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious practitioner to lead two subjects that sit at the heart of our practical, experiential and future-focused curriculum. At Bradfields, we believe that learning should be meaningful, engaging and connected to the world beyond the classroom. Science/Land Studies together provide powerful opportunities for students to explore the natural world, develop practical skills and build confidence through hands-on learning.

The successful candidate will lead a department team in the strategic development, teaching and quality assurance of both Science/Land Studies, ensuring that students with a wide range of learning needs can access rich, purposeful and ambitious learning experiences.

The successful candidate will lead an established subject that caters for all levels of SEN students offering a range of qualifications including entry level and level 1. An experience of a variety of different levels of qualification within Science/Land Studies would be an advantage.

The academy is an all-through provision and whilst there are specialists that teach in the primary and more complex provisions, subject leaders are expected to have an active input into their subject within these specialist areas. A good understanding of SEN and the potential barriers to learning and developing life skills would be an advantage.

Our Forestry provision plays a particularly important role in developing resilience, wellbeing and practical life skills through outdoor learning and environmental engagement. Combined with a strong Science curriculum, this creates a distinctive learning pathway that prepares students for further education, employment and independent living.

The successful candidate will join the Middle Leadership Team and take an active role in academy development in whole site initiatives.

It is important that the successful candidate has good communication skills, and an understanding and experience of how to support staff in their understanding and delivery of all topics linked to Science/Land Studies.

We welcome applications from experienced teachers who are passionate about curriculum development, inclusive teaching and innovative learning environments.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner with a passion for Science and experiential learning
  • Have the vision and drive to lead and develop two distinctive curriculum areas
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of SEN pedagogy and personalised learning
  • Be able to inspire both students and colleagues through creative curriculum leadership
  • Show strong organisational, leadership and teamwork skills

Bradfields Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

An enhanced DBS check (Children & Vulnerable Adults) and satisfactory references will be required.

We are an equal opportunities employer.

Closing Date:24th March 2026

Interviews:Week beginning 30th March 2026

Bradfields Academy reserves the right to close the application window early should a successful candidate present themselves before the closing date.
