The Role:
We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to predominantly support pupils in Lower Key Stage 2, with flexibility across other year groups as needed. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SEND team to provide tailored support that promotes high standards of behaviour, independence, and inclusion. The hours are 31.25hrs per week Monday to Friday 8:30 – 3:15

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Supporting the Pupil:

  • Build positive relationships that promote self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion.
  • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and mental health needs, escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Assist in developing and delivering individual education, support, and care plans.
  • Promote high standards of behaviour in line with school policies.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Adopt informed strategies to support teaching and increase pupil achievement.
  • Contribute to planning and delivering differentiated learning activities inside and outside the classroom.
  • Support a broad and balanced curriculum to help pupils reach their full potential.
  • Encourage pupil participation in learning and extracurricular activities.
  • Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently.
  • Organise teaching spaces and resources to maintain a stimulating and safe environment.
  • Use ICT to advance pupils’ learning.
  • Provide regular feedback to teachers on pupil progress and barriers to learning.
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress and attainment.
  • Read and understand lesson plans shared by teachers.

Collaboration:

  • Share knowledge about pupils with staff, and relevant professionals to inform interventions.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, pupils, and families.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, SEND specialists, and external professionals.
  • Develop positive professional relationships within the school community.

Professional Development:

  • Reflect on your practice and engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Work with school leaders to identify and build relevant skills and qualifications.
  • Participate in the school’s appraisal process.

Safeguarding:

  • Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance and school policies.
  • Promote the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils.

Flexibility:

  • Predominantly support Lower Key Stage 2 pupils but be flexible to support other year groups or areas of need as required.

Archbishop Courtenay Church of England Primary School is an expanding 1.5 form entry school and a member of Aquila, The Diocese of Canterbury Academies Trust (www.aquilatrust.co.uk).

We work closely with our community, especially All Saints' Church, and have a PTFA which helps organise many events. PE and music specialists provide additional curriculum enrichment. All early years classrooms have their own, purpose-built outside learning environment. Our Pastoral & Wellbeing Manager offers highly effective support to our pupils and their families.
