Woodpecker Court, an Ofsted Outstanding Specialist Post-16 Provider, is seeking to appoint a Construction/Functional Skills Tutor to join our inclusive community supporting young people aged 16–24 who thrive outside mainstream education. Our holistic approach blends academic learning with practical experiences in a peaceful countryside setting, helping students build confidence, resilience, and ambition. You will deliver engaging, high-quality lessons in Construction up to Level 2, as well as Functional Skills in English and Maths. Working with learners who have diverse needs, including SEND and SEMH, you will help them achieve essential qualifications and build the confidence they need for their future. You will also track progress carefully and provide constructive feedback to support ongoing development.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons in Construction and Functional Skills English and Maths
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and motivating learning environment

The hours are averaged at 40 per week, 8:25am–16.45pm (Mon–Fri). The role is term time plus 5 staff development days (39 weeks/year) and the salary follows the NASUWT pay scale depending on experience.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) in English and Maths
  • Level 3 Construction qualification
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience to manage challenging situations calmly
  • Commitment to promoting the ethos and values of Woodpecker Court and promoting our core values: Relationships, Respect, Resilience, underpinned by Routine

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Teaching/support qualifications
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English and Maths
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
  • Ability to assess student needs and apply strategies to support learning
  • Experience working with students with diverse needs, including SEND and SEMH
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management
