Fixed-term contract in the first instance
Hours: Approx 6 hours per day, 5 days per week (final pattern to be agreed)
Pay: Kent Range (KRA) – pro-rated for term-time only
Start date: As soon as possible

Riverhead Infants’ School is looking to appoint a reliable, friendly and proactive Catering Assistant to join our hardworking team. This is an important role within our school community, helping to ensure that children enjoy healthy meals in a calm, welcoming environment and that our kitchen and hall spaces run efficiently throughout the day.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Kitchen Manager and other members of staff to support both the lunchtime service and our popular after-school club. Duties will include assisting with food preparation, setting up and clearing away dining spaces, serving meals to children, washing up, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Full training will be provided, including food hygiene and safety training where required.

As Riverhead Infants’ School prepares meals for two neighbouring schools, there may be limited occasions when our Catering Assistant is required to transport food using their own vehicle. For this reason, a full driving licence and access to a car is essential.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is cheerful, hardworking and committed to supporting children’s wellbeing

  • Works well as part of a team and can follow instructions confidently

  • Takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment

  • Is reliable, flexible and able to work efficiently during busy periods

We welcome applicants with relevant experience or training, but equally we are happy to support the right candidate with appropriate induction, coaching and professional development opportunities.

Riverhead Infants’ School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check, online checks and all other relevant pre-employment safeguarding checks.
