Alternative Provision 1:1 Leader – Woodchurch, Ashford

Practical Skills | Farm-Based Learning | Larger Livestock | Ages 14+
Hours: Monday–Friday, 09:30–14:30
Start: January 2026
Contract: Term-time only (13 weeks paid leave)

Yew Tree Farm School is seeking a practical, confident practitioner to support older students with SEMH and SEND needs at our Woodchurch alternative provision site. This is a hands-on role based within a working farm environment, supporting students through meaningful activities such as animal care, outdoor skills and daily farm routines.

You will deliver structured sessions that help students develop independence, confidence and life skills while working safely with animals, including larger livestock and equine.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting older learners with SEMH/SEND

  • Is confident working on a busy farm and handling larger livestock

  • Can lead purposeful, practical and outdoor learning sessions

  • Understands safety, risk assessments and consistent routines

  • Can motivate students who thrive through real-world, hands-on tasks

This role would suit someone with experience in practical education, farming, outdoor learning, youth work, mentoring or alternative provision.

Yew Tree Farm School is a small, independent special school for children aged 7–11 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with a primary need of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our unique outdoor setting uses the farm as a dynamic classroom, offering a broad and balanced curriculum that integrates academic learning with real-world, practical experiences. Our mission is to re-engage learners who have struggled in traditional classroom environments, helping them build confidence, resilience, and independence to transition successfully to their next educational setting.
