You will ensure that our buildings and grounds are safe, well-presented, and fully operational to support teaching, learning, and community use.

This is a hands-on and varied role that requires strong practical skills, excellent organisational ability, and a commitment to Health & Safety compliance. The successful candidate will also manage site staff, liaise with contractors, and support wider Trust estates projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the maintenance, security, and compliance of all school buildings, grounds, and facilities in line with Health & Safety legislation.
  • Act as the school’s Chief Fire Officer, maintaining records and leading emergency procedures.
  • Manage and supervise site staff and oversee the work of cleaning and maintenance contractors.
  • Support the Estates Manager with statutory checks, compliance documentation, and ongoing site improvement projects.
  • Coordinate and undertake practical maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, decorating, and basic plumbing or carpentry.
  • Manage security operations, including keyholder duties, alarm response, and site access for lettings and events.
  • Liaise with the Estates Manager and senior leaders on budgeting, procurement, and project planning.
  • Prepare and maintain facilities for school and community events.
  • Ensure the school minibus is maintained, serviced, and legally compliant.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager, Caretaker, or Facilities Supervisor, ideally within a school or large organisation.
  • Strong practical maintenance and DIY skills, with the ability to safely operate relevant tools and machinery.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, fire safety, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and ICT skills.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing contractors.
  • A flexible, proactive attitude and the ability to work independently.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
