Information about the school

In our latest Ofsted inspection, which took place in March 2024, the school achieved an overall grading of “Good” with our personal development curriculum graded as “Outstanding”, inspectors said about our school…

“Pupils are truly cared for and nurtured at Hoo St Werburgh and the Marlborough”.

“This school is ambitious for all pupils to do well and achieve their best. Adults set clear expectations for learning. Pupils live up to these.”

Staff have high expectations of how pupils should behave. Across the school, relationships between adults and pupils are warm and respectful.

Pupils’ personal development is exceptional. The school provides extremely strong welfare and pastoral support steered by the school’s values. The school’s extensive nurture provision effectively identifies and addresses the social and emotional needs of each child.

Hoo St Werburgh Primary School & The Marlborough share the inclusive ethos of the Rivermead Inclusive Trust. We firmly believe that every child has a right to an education, no matter what barriers they have to learning. We have a fantastic inclusions and pastoral team that support us with this drive. We aim to instil in our pupils an enthusiasm for learning and an interest in the world around them. We have high expectations of our pupils and staff and strive to provide a learning environment that ensures our pupils are challenged and make good or better progress in all aspects of their school life.

We celebrate every aspect of our pupils’ learning from their social and emotional development and life skills acquisition to the national curriculum subjects of reading, writing, maths and more. We are also fortunate enough to have an in- school Forest School which all our children have access to as part of our curriculum.

There are over 480 children on roll in the main school, with two classes per year group in the main school. We also have an established nursery class attached to the school, which offers fantastic provision to two, three and four olds from the Hoo area. The Marlborough caters for 85 children within their specialist setting.

As you can see, Hoo St Werburgh is an exciting place to work and one where the needs of the child sits at the centre of everything we do. We are looking for special people with the same vision as us to help our school continue on its “ever improving” journey.
