Teaching Assistant

Speldhurst Church of England Primary School is looking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who has the ability to inspire, motivate and provide one-to-one and class support in KS2. 

Speldhurst is an Outstanding school and this is a great opportunity to join our happy and motivated team. The school has a strong Christian ethos and is at the heart of the Speldhurst village community.

We are looking for an enthusiastic teaching assistant willing to provide one-to-one and whole class support. You will be able to hit the ground running to support KS2 pupils. You will have a passion for working with children and an interest in working with SEN pupils. You may have experience of working in a in a primary school, either with small groups or in supporting individual pupils. The post is part-time 8.30am to 1pm daily.  

Experience is an advantage but consideration will also be given to candidates with relevant skills. 

The ideal candidate will be a well organised practitioner who is able to use their own initiative and also be able to work as part of a team. You will be flexible in your approach, completely reliable and always enthusiastic and positive.

Having a working knowledge of KS1 or KS2 curriculum and experience with supporting children in a primary school setting would be a great advantage. Empathy and an ability to establish good working relationships with staff, parents and pupils are essential.

Necessary Experience:

  • Good standard of education
  • Strong ICT skills
  • The ability to take responsibility for an individual SEN pupil one-to-one.
  • Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable Experience:  

  • Previous experience as a TA, in a school or in supporting pupils with SEN needs
  • Knowledge of KS1/KS2 curriculum

Qualifications:

Any of the following would be welcomed:

Teaching Assistant Level 3

Nursery nurse qualifiction in childcare or Early Years such as a CACHE Diploma in Early Years Education and Care or a BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development

Degree in Early Childhood Studies/Education

Teaching Qualification

Experience as a KS1 Teaching Assistant

Visits to the school are encouraged

Speldhurst Church of England Aided Primary School is in a village 3 miles from Tunbridge Wells in Kent and is at the heart of a thriving village community. We are a small, caring school with just 212 pupils so it is possible to know every child.

The school became Voluntary Aided in September 2004 and is known for its strong sense of community and Christian ethos. We gained outstanding judgements in all 5 areas following an Ofsted inspection in February 2025 and also have an Excellent SIAMS judgement (June 2019).
