We are seeking a dedicated and caring Kitchen Assistant / Catering Support to join our friendly school team at Parkview School. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the preparation and service of healthy, nutritious meals for our pupils, while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety.

You will work closely with the Cook and Senior Management Team to promote healthy eating, ensure compliance with food hygiene regulations, and contribute to a positive, respectful environment for pupils and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Prepare and assist with meals that meet nutritional standards, dietary needs, and learner preferences.
  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the kitchen and dining areas, supporting the school’s Five Star Food Standards Agency rating.
  • Understand and adhere to health, safety, and safeguarding procedures when working with children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Support the Cook and School Management Team with menu planning and food ordering.
  • Correctly label, date, wrap, and store food products.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, floors, and dining furniture to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Promote healthy eating and positive food experiences for pupils.
  • Undertake relevant training and any additional reasonable duties as requested by the Senior Management Team.

About You

  • Passionate about working with children and supporting their wellbeing.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety procedures (Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate desirable).
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards and following safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience in a school or catering environment is desirable but not essential — training will be provided.
