We are a small but ambitious Trust with a strong commitment to providing excellent education, nurturing environments, and opportunities for every child to thrive. Our Board of Trustees plays a vital strategic role in ensuring the Trust’s vision, values, and objectives are met; balancing accountability, oversight, and support for our schools and leadership team.

As a Trustee, you will:

  • Contribute to setting the strategic direction of the Trust.

  • Ensure the Trust is financially sustainable and compliant with all statutory responsibilities.

  • Support and challenge senior leaders to achieve the best outcomes for pupils.

  • Help uphold high standards of governance, safeguarding, and community engagement.

We welcome applicants from a variety of professional backgrounds, especially those with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance or accountancy (e.g. budgeting, audit, or financial strategy)

  • Education 

  • Legal 

  • Marketing and communications

  • Health & Safety and risk management

You don’t need previous experience, we’re looking for individuals with commitment, integrity, and a desire to make a positive impact on local children.

We hold 5 meetings per year, typically between 4pm-6pm.

Information about the trust

The Whinless Down Academy Trust aims to provide excellent opportunities for local children, in local schools, run by local people. It is a primary school only Trust, based in Dover, Kent, comprising of Vale View, Priory Fields and St Martin's. Collaborative working is integral to our trust approach, and we continue to support and learn from each other.

We have a friendly and supportive team who work in close collaboration across the Trust to secure best outcomes for children through an exciting and engaging curriculum, tailored to meet the needs of our pupils. We actively work to develop all our staff and offer a comprehensive programme of professional development for staff at all levels and in all roles - fulfilling out true belief that learning changes lives.

The safeguarding of our children is of paramount importance, and we are rigorous in our recruitment procedures. This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS check, and references will be pursued. As part of our safer recruitment process, we will conduct an online search of all shortlisted applicants. The purpose of this search is to identify any matters that might relate directly to our legal duty to meet the safeguarding duties set out in KCSIE.
