Our school has a well deserved reputation for being a caring and very child centred environment. This isn't a school where children are viewed in terms of their SATs potential. Our ethos is set out on our website and I would urge you to look at it. At a time when the corporate approach of academy chains is increasingly to the fore, traditional schools like St Peter's are becoming rarer. Parents appreciate what we offer and we are now oversubscribed and our roll has grown from 167 children some 9 years ago, to 205 currently.

However, despite this, we are fighting against budget constraints, in keeping with most other small primary schools. Recruitment has been stymied by the limitations of our budget. But we are now seeking a TA to join us on a part time basis. We would love to have you full time, but we can't afford that as yet.

We have HLTAs who cover the PPA provision in a number of KS2 classes. Your immediate role would be to act as the class TA in those classes during the PPA sessions, assisting the HLTA. These sessions would run on Wednesday-Friday afternoons inclusively. If you just wished to work those three afternoons, we could accommodate you. However, if you needed to work for all five afternoons, or for the whole of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we could also accommodate that. We must cover Wednesday-Friday afternoon; we can be flexible over the other hours. If you wished to work all of the afternoons or three full days, you would be providing general support in KS2 classes.

This would be a permanent contract for a suitably experienced candidate. If you haven't quite the experience we would wish, we may discuss a temporary contract for the remainder of the academic year, whilst we assess your full capabilities. Then, if appropriate, we would appoint you on a permanent basis. We would like to aim towards a permanent appointment to provide stability to our staff team.

If you chose to work for the full three days, we would ask you to start work at 8.15, prior to the children coming into school at 8.30, so that you have time to liaise with the class teacher. You will finish at 3pm when school ends. If working full days, you would have a 30 minute lunch break and work for the other 30 minutes helping to supervise lunch, in keeping with our other TAs.

If you wished to work just the afternoons, we would ask you to begin at 1pm and finish at 3pm. The normal pay scale is Kent Scheme A, which equates to an hourly rate of £12.71.

We would wish you to start work here as soon as possible, but we can wait for the right candidate if required. We would encourage you to get in touch for an informal discussion about the position and we would then love to show you around our school.

St Peter’s Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and expects staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to full safer recruitment procedures, and enhanced DBS checks are required for this post.

Information about the school

St Peter's is a small, delightful village primary school situated in the medieval village of Aylesford, housed in a Victorian building and the old vicarage, opposite the village church. We take pride in our caring and supportive attitude to everyone at the school and aim to ensure that the continued professional development of all staff is a priority.

We currently have 205 children in seven classes. Due to our popularity, KCC have extended our original classrooms so that each can now accommodate 30 pupils. We expect to have a roll of 210 within the next year, as we have been over subscribed for our Year R intake.

Our ethos is that we aim to develop the child as a whole. We are not focused on SATs league tables or achieving a judgement of Outstanding from Ofsted. We want to deliver to our pupils the type of rounded education that we would wish for our own children. This means delivering the widest and richest curriculum possible. We aim to provide our children with an education which prepares them for the adult life ahead of them.

Children learn a modern foreign language from Year R and continue to do so throughout their years here. Every Thursday is a Creative Day, when we only teach art, music, MFL, computing and PE. Education is not about focusing your efforts on achieving the highest possible SATs grades; real education is about providing our children with the best possible teaching and the widest possible curriculum.

We want our children to be both supported, and to be shown that it is quite alright to take a chance and to fail. They must learn that being taken out of their comfort zone is exciting and not frightening. We are preparing our children for life, not a test. But if we do so professionally, with high quality teaching, then they will succeed in tests as best as they are able, as well as being fully prepared for the life which awaits them.

We have a small team of dedicated staff who love their school and work extremely hard to ensure that our children receive the best possible education. We support each other and appreciate each other's strengths. This is a friendly and supportive environment and we welcome like minded individuals who wish to join us.
