Phonics/Reading Senior Teaching Assistant

The post of for 30 hours per week (8:30 – 3:30 Monday to Friday) term time only.

Veritas Range 7 - £25,378 - £28,466 (£17,398 - £19,514.99 pro rata)

In this Senior Teaching Assistant role, you will be specialising in early reading intervention, providing targeted support to students struggling with reading and helping them to develop essential literacy skills. You will work closely with the school Teaching and Learning lead who will provide training and support in the delivery of this intervention. Phonics support is a crucial part of this role. Supporting students in Key Stage 1 and 2 to build confidence and make accelerated progress in reading and phonics.  Example responsibilities of a Reading/Phonics Senior Teaching Assistant are:

  • Deliver targeted phonics intervention to pupils who need additional support in small groups and on a 1:1 basis where required
  • Work closely with teachers to identify students' needs and tailor sessions accordingly. 
  • Monitor and assess the progress of pupils and provide regular feedback to teachers and parents. 
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and confidence.
  • Plan and prepare focus sessions. 
  • Work alongside teachers within whole class phonics sessions to maximise learning for all.

Ideal applicants should: 

  • Hold a minimum of a level 3 relevant qualification. 
  • Have experience leading intervention sessions and an indepth understanding of phonics.
  • Show an uplifting and positive role model to all children.
