St Nicholas CE Primary Academy is seeking a compassionate and skilled Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team and support pupils with communication and language needs. Key Responsibilities:

  • 1:1 Support: Deliver personalised speech and language interventions to individual pupils, following guidance from the Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Group Work: Lead small group sessions to develop language skills and promote positive peer interaction.
  • Progress Tracking: Monitor and record pupil progress, ensuring interventions are effective and targets are met. Share feedback with the Speech and Language Therapist and teaching staff.
  • Resource Development: Prepare engaging and differentiated resources to support speech and language activities, tailored to pupils’ individual needs.
  • Collaborative Practice: Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and support staff to embed speech and language strategies across the curriculum.
  • Parent Engagement: Communicate with parents and carers to share progress and offer strategies to support language development at home.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 speech and language interventions in a school setting.
  • Ability to implement advice from Speech and Language Therapists effectively.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in tracking pupil progress.
  • A passion for supporting children’s communication and language development.

St Nicholas CE Primary Academy is situated in the heart of New Romney, set in beautiful surroundings, and is well-resourced to meet the needs of its 15 classes and 420+ children, in this over-subscribed and well-maintained school judged Good with Outstanding features by OFSTED (May 2019).

We have a committed and enthusiastic staff who are determined to enable every child to reach their potential by providing them with a stable, caring environment where children are happy to attend and are stimulated and keen to learn while developing their potential. We cater to a wide range of abilities encouraging all children to achieve at their highest level.

Our church school status means we have a strong Christian ethos and links to St Nicholas Church in New Romney which enriches both our collective worship and school values.

We are fortunate to have on-site an outstanding private nursery, which provides breakfast and an after-school club within the school, and a Children's Centre.

The academy also has a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP). The SRP is a 14-place specialist provision sited within the mainstream academy for children with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) designation. The school also holds the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) Centre of Excellence Awards.
