Position: Tutor – Carpentry & DT 

Location: Maypole Farm, Canterbury 
 

Maypole Farm in Hoath is part of the Tuition Extra Group. Here we use our wonderful outdoor setting to support SEND learners with incredible therapeutic and vocational learning experiences. We provide our young people with a nurturing, creative and stimulating environment to make connections and educational progress, through accessing tailor-made qualification pathways in Animal Care, Horticulture, Carpentry, Mechanics, Forest School, Hospitality and Arts.  

 

About the Role 

We are looking for a creative teacher to join our growing team at Maypole Farm. This would suit somebody wanting to work both indoors and outdoors supporting our students with their learning, with a particular focus on woodwork, carpentry and design technology. 

 
Your principal duties and responsibilities will include – 

  • Delivering high quality carpentry and woodwork sessions to students.  
  • Supporting students with the completion of Open Award Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications. 
  • Supporting other teaching staff with day-to-day responsibilities.  
  • Ensuring the safety of students through providing the correct PPE. 
  • Raising any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Leads. 
  • Updating student progress records as and when required. 
  • Supporting the Construction Lead and the education team with the delivery of carpentry and construction academic qualifications.  
  • Supporting the Construction Lead with the planning, delivery, and assessment of learning opportunities.  
  • Supporting staff members in other divisions as and when required with the running of the farm. 
  • Completing all required training to support the effective delivery of this role.  

 

About You 

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA or Teacher. 
  • Supportive and nurturing approach towards working with children.  
  • Experience of working with SEND learners is desirable. 
  • Competent in delivering carpentry lessons, with good knowledge of woodwork processes. 
  • Confident in using manual and electrical carpentry tools and demonstrating how to use them safely. 
  • Willing to work outside in adverse weather conditions all year round. 
  • Effective team player, who builds trust and positive relationships. 
  • Self-motivated, with a positive and professional attitude. 
  • Competent IT knowledge and skills. 
  • Full current UK valid driving license.

This is a permanent contract starting as soon as possible but can be either full or part time. This position is pro-rata to 39 weeks per year, following KCC term dates.
