Deputy Head – Inclusion and Behaviour Lead

Leadership Pay Scale – negotiable dependent on experience

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for 'Inclusion and Behaviour' to join our school.

You do not have to currently have specific AEN / SEN leadership experience but you will have to show real passion for inclusion and experience of supporting staff with inclusive practices. The most important thing is that you have an uncompromising drive for the best possible teaching and learning for every child and believe that you can successfully and meaningfully contribute to and lead Upton’s provision.

Our Deputy Headteacher will:

  • Be a courageous school leader – our pupils deserve a first-class education
  • Take the leading role for Inclusion throughout the school
  • Have responsibility for behaviour across the school
  • Be an excellent role model for staff and pupils
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers and external agencies and have an understanding  of current AEN/SEN procedures
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to support our staff with a 'hands-on' approach
  • Be able to demonstrate in their application that they can fulfil the main duties of the job description and person specification as a minimum

Our commitment to you

You can expect:

  • 520 fantastic children each deserving a Deputy Headteacher that will willingly go that extra mile to ensure they succeed
  • A dedicated Senior Leadership with their own passion and expertise within inclusion
  • An established wellbeing team, a SENCo Assistant and two Learning Mentors supporting inclusive practice
  • Focused Speech and Language provision already established in the school
  • A supportive school community - we have a great team
  • A team of SENCos - both Ramsgate Arts Primary and Chilton Primary have excellent, experienced and supportive SENCos.
  • Supervision from one of our experienced Trustees
  • Support to complete SENCo qualification and NPQs.

This role is not class based but with the scope of the post, a hands-on approach with children in classrooms will be essential.

Please do make an appointment to come and see the school and our children in action by emailing Miss Darci Arthur – Head of School – headofschool@uptonjunior.com

Information about the trust

The Viking Academy Trust is a primary only, Multi-Academy Trust consisting of three inspirational schools: Upton Junior School, Chilton Primary School and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.

Our One Childhood One Chance philosophy resonates throughout everything we do at the Viking Academy Trust.

At Viking, we make sure that our ultimate focus and core purpose remains excellent teaching and learning for every child. Our teaching is progressive and adaptive and we strive for the best outcomes for all. We invest time and training into our staff so that they can invest their skills and expertise into our children.

For children to thrive, they need to feel that they belong. Our people and our environments are warm and welcoming. Every member of our staff invests in building strong relationships with children and getting to know children well means we can focus on equity of opportunity.

This means that we can prioritise social and emotional learning along with the academic as we know that children need to learn how to be resilient, to have healthy and safe relationships and to face the world with problem solving skills.

We nurture children to become responsible citizens, ready to face the modern world and to make the most of their every potential both academically and socially. At Viking schools, we have high standards and expectations and we know how to support children to reach them.
