We are looking for a second School Cook to work alongside our existing Cook.  As a school we are very proud of the meals that we produce and serve our children and therefore are looking for that special person who can join our team with enthusiasm and energy.  We are looking for somebody who has a real passion for food, nutrition and health with a strong knowledge of allergy awareness and comes with ideas and skills to be part of  and enhance our catering team.  All our meals are cooked fresh on site every day in our fabulous kitchen, which was newly built in 2022.  We serve over 100 meals a day and we have a large take up of school meals, due to the high quality food that is offered to our children.  This position is term time only for 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 9AM and 2PM.

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Hold a Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Hold a Level 2 or 3 Allergy Awareness Certificate
  • Have experience of catering for large numbers
  • Have experience of working with children
  • Have knowledge of COSHH
  • Have knowledge and experience of using commercial catering equipment
  • Knowledge of budgeting and food costs and the ability to negotiate prices
  • Be a good team player; flexible and prepared to use initiative
  • Have good literacy and mathematical skills
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills (written and verbal)
  • Support the ethos and wider life of the school
  • High standards of work ethic and self-motivation
  • High standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional standards and team work

Information about the school

We are a Church of England Aided Junior school, situated in the heart of Whitstable. We are a two form entry school with a total of eight classes. Locally we are known as 'The Endowed' and we describe ourselves as an old school with a young heart. This year we are excited to be celebrating our 180th birthday!
