Join Our Team as a Cover Supervisor – Inspire, Engage, and Make a Difference!

Up to £21,500 (Actual Salary based on TT only)
Term-Time Only – 38 Weeks per Year - Permanent

Are you passionate about working with young people? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to inspire? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic, and proactive Cover Supervisor to join our vibrant school community. In this rewarding role, you'll play a key part in ensuring continuity of learning by stepping in to teach lessons when teachers are absent. You'll help maintain a positive, engaging classroom atmosphere and support students in achieving their best.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and manage classroom activities in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Deliver pre-set lesson plans and keep students engaged in their learning.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all pupils, including those with special educational needs (SEN) and autism.
  • Communicate with students in a way that encourages curiosity, confidence, and classroom participation.
  • Support the creation and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Offer mentoring or tutoring when needed, helping students build skills and confidence.
  • Use your creativity to support learning—especially in activities involving reading and writing.
  • Work closely with teachers to maintain consistent educational experiences across classes.
  • Confidently manage classroom behaviour and encourage positive interactions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children, especially those with SEN or autism.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • A flexible and resilient mindset—you’ll be comfortable thinking on your feet.
  • Experience in mentoring or tutoring is a bonus!
  • A flair for creative writing is a plus—imagination goes a long way in the classroom!
  • Above all, a genuine passion for education and a desire to make a real difference.

Term-Time Only – What Does That Mean?

This is a term-time only role, which means you will work during the 38 weeks of the school year when pupils are in session. You’ll have the school holidays off—perfect for work-life balance, family time, or personal development!

Your salary will be prorated to reflect the 38 working weeks, meaning you’re paid for the weeks you work plus a portion of holiday pay, then this total is spread evenly over 12 months for consistency.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a passionate, supportive educational team.
  • Build valuable experience in a school environment—ideal for aspiring teachers or education professionals.
  • Have a direct and meaningful impact on students' lives every single day.
  • Enjoy a well-balanced schedule with regular breaks throughout the year.

If you're looking for a fulfilling role where no two days are the same—and you’re ready to help shape the future of young learners—we would love to hear from you!

Information about the school

Herne Bay High School is a large hugely successful Single Academy Trust that serves the Herne Bay coastal area of North Kent. We have a comprehensive intake and are significantly oversubscribed in all year groups and in June 2022 Ofsted rated the school good with an Outstanding 6th form provision.

Whilst academic rigour and examination success is at the forefront of our development, we passionately believe that a broad, balanced approach to education is important and as such we place great emphasis on the Creative and Performing Arts, Technology, and Sport as a key part of a young person’s early educational journey. Herne Bay High School is also a champion of collaborative practice, with current memberships to the East Kent Learning Alliance (EKLA), East Kent Schools Together Network (EKST), and the Coastal Alliance Co-Operative Trust (CACOT).

Safeguarding Commitment: At Herne Bay High, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As such, all applicants will be required to undergo comprehensive child protection screening, including checks with past employers, the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS), and Barred List Checks. If you share our commitment to safeguarding and child welfare, we encourage you to apply.
