The highly successful, thriving and popular Science department is seeking a new Chemistry teacher to join in September 2025 on a full-time permanent basis, experience in teaching A Level Chemistry would be highly desirable.  For the right candidate, this role could be a shared Second in Charge that includes a TLR (2).

The Science department runs smoothly and our students achieve well across Key stages 3 to 5. Our core purpose is to fully engage all our students and ignite their curiosity and determination so they can achieve their full potential.

At KS3, students follow an adapted and extended version of the AQA Activate Science scheme and at GCSE we teach the AQA syllabus with all students studying separate Science GCSEs. Years 7–9 are taught general Science until Year 10 when Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught as separate subjects. Science at A Level continues to be a highly popular choice, with Chemistry numbers growing each year, requiring the addition of an extra class.  A Level Chemistry follows the OCR specification.

The Science department has 11 laboratories at the main Tunbridge Wells campus and six further laboratories at the Sevenoaks campus. All are fully equipped for high-quality teaching and learning and one laboratory is specialised for teaching A Level Chemistry. We are further supported by five technicians.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about the Science curriculum and how this can be taught in an inspiring way to maximise student engagement and success. They will be able to provide effective support to the Science department and steer areas of common interest and strategy across the department in order to enhance the quality of learning and achievement.  Applications are welcome from experienced teachers and ECTs at this popular and over-subscribed boys’ grammar school with mixed sixth form.

The School Context Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys, also known Boys Grammar or TWGSB was originally founded in 1956 as a technical school and later became a grammar school in 1982. It is one of the largest grammar schools in England, with over 1800 students and approximately 160 staff split across two sites.

Whilst we are Boys Grammar School, we warmly welcome female students in the Sixth Form.
