We are ideally seeking a full-time, all-year-round practitioner, though term-time only positions may be considered for the right candidate.

New House Nursery School is seeking a caring, creative and experienced Early Years Practitioner to join our vibrant and passionate team. Nestled in a beautiful Edwardian house in Canterbury, we pride ourselves on offering a warm, nurturing environment where children aged 2 to 5 can thrive – and where staff feel truly valued.

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reflective and genuinely committed to delivering exceptional early years education. You’ll be a qualified (Level 3 or higher) practitioner with at least one year of post-qualifying experience, a solid understanding of the EYFS framework, and confidence as a Key Person. A strong grasp of written English and an ability to work collaboratively are also essential.

We’re open to considering the right candidate even if they don’t currently hold a Level 3 qualification, as long as they’re willing to complete the training while in the role.

What we are looking for:

  • Fully qualified Early years Practitioner
  • Experience with children aged 2-5 years
  • Full time applicant (Term time can also be possible)
  • High standards of care and education
  • Organisational skills
  • At least one year post qualifying experience
  • Experience of being a key person
  • Team player
  • A passion for early years
  • Knowledge of SEND (desired)

In return, we offer:

  • A supportive, experienced and friendly team
  • A beautiful, well resourced setting with real character
  • Regular CPD and opportunities for career progression and ongoing training
  • Christmas closure and bank holidays off
  • Free on-site parking
  • Set weekday hours
  • A genuine focus on staff wellbeing and a shared passion for early years excellence

Information about the school

New House is an informal Private Nursery School for two to five year olds situated in the idyllic rural location of New House Lane and operates with the very strong ethos that every game and aspect of play is an important and valuable learning experience for the pre-school child. All of the rooms have a calm, relaxed and happy atmosphere in which all of the children are offered a variety of activities encouraging them to interact and participate, but most importantly tailor made for individual abilities enabling each child to work at their own pace. This in turn increases the child’s confidence and levels of well being giving them the opportunity to become totally independent within the Nursery environment demonstrating high levels of involvement. New House not only offers excellent premises in which to house the children and cater for their individual needs, but boasts a wonderfully spacious and well equipped garden to support our strong ethos on outdoor play; the garden is used during both the morning and afternoon sessions all year round and the children are able to develop their gross motor skills and experience the wealth of nature that surrounds them first hand with total safety. On leaving us, our children should be prepared for school with an enquiring mind and enough confidence to undertake various tasks with complete self reliance. New House was judged Outstanding for the third consecutive time in November 2024.
