Are you a dynamic and passionate Drama teacher ready to ignite creativity and inspire a love of performance in young minds? Do you thrive in a supportive, collaborative environment where teamwork and professional growth are key? If so, Mascalls Academy wants to hear from you!

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Teacher of Drama to join our thriving department and help foster a passion for the performing arts across the academy. As a member of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to inspire and challenge our students, shaping their confidence, communication skills, and appreciation for the power of drama. Importantly, our performing arts are instrumental in our Inclusion strategy, working to engage, support, and drive participation and enjoyment of learning for all students.

Why join us?

  • Thriving Drama Department: You will be part of a well-resourced and dynamic Drama department where the performing arts are highly valued and play a key role in the academy's inclusive ethos.
  • Instrumental in Inclusion: You will contribute directly to our Inclusion strategy by using drama to engage students, provide support, and foster a love of learning across the curriculum.
  • Collaborative Culture: Our department has a strong culture of teamwork, where knowledge sharing, mutual support, and a shared vision are at the heart of everything we do.
  • Professional Development: At Mascalls Academy, you will benefit from extensive opportunities for professional growth, including access to shared best practices across the wider Leigh Academies Trust network.
  • Fantastic Resources: We have excellent facilities that enable you to deliver creative and engaging drama lessons, supported by the latest teaching tools and technology.

What we’re looking for:

  • A passionate Drama teacher with the ability to inspire and engage students in all aspects of drama and performance.
  • A subject specialist who thrives in a collaborative team environment, sharing ideas and supporting colleagues to achieve collective success.
  • An understanding of how the performing arts can be used to promote inclusion, engagement, and positive learning experiences for all students.
  • A drive to develop professionally and take full advantage of the excellent opportunities for career progression within Leigh Academies Trust.

If you are excited about the opportunity to shape the future of drama education, contribute to an inclusive learning environment, and make a lasting impact on students, we would love to hear from you!

Note: Whilst the position is offered on a maternity cover basis initially of up to one year, every effort will be made to offer a substantive position thereafter, either at Mascalls Academy or within the wider family of academies across Leigh Academies Trust. The central Recruitment Team will keep in touch with you throughout your contract to discuss options available to you.

Mascalls Academy is a very special place to work and pre-application visits or phone calls are both encouraged and welcomed. If you would like to arrange to discuss the role with a member of the team, please contact Amy Wenban, Recruitment Advisor at amy.wenban@latrust.org.uk

Information about the trust

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st April 2024, our Trust comprises 32 geographically organised academies (16 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating more than 20,000 students and employing 3,000 talented staff. Nearly 40% of our academies are judged outstanding overall by Ofsted, versus 15% nationally. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training organisations, a large teaching school hub and is an accredited apprenticeship provider. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

In addition to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all of our children, aged from 2 months to 19 years, and their families, we are proud to provide many opportunities for lifelong learning. These are delivered through the organisations under our umbrella: Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, LAT Apprenticeships and Kent and Medway Training (KMT), which delivers routes into teaching.

Our commitment to safeguarding: Leigh Academies Trust and all of our academies are committed to ensuring the highest levels of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils, and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We adopt a fair, robust and consistent recruitment process across all academies and business units. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, references, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check.

Our commitment to equality and diversity: As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals, we all bring something unique to the role regardless of any protected characteristics which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise. We are committed to providing equality and fairness throughout our recruitment and employment practices and not to discriminate on any grounds.
