CURRICULUM LEADER OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION - Maternity Leave Cover

September 2025-February 2026 (may extend to Easter 2026)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Curriculum Leader of PE to join an outstanding department and teach bright, well-motivated pupils in a supportive environment. The department is looking for an excellent all-rounder, however, expertise in netball and GCSE PE, and preferably prior experience in middle leadership, are essential. The PE department at TWGGS has a strong tradition of, and commitment to, extra curricular activities, and an ability to make a full contribution to this programme of works is essential, including umpiring netball fixtures and running weekly KS3 netball training.

TWGGS is an 11-18 girls’ selective school of about a thousand pupils, where girls are encouraged to be as active beyond the curriculum as they are within it. Trips, visits and extra-curricular activities are unrivalled in the state sector, but, more importantly, it is an amazingly happy, positive community to be part of.

The successful candidate will be a part of a department of four in this very popular oversubscribed school, where the teaching of PE is compulsory from Years 7 to 13. Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 have two 1 hour lessons of PE a week and in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 pupils have one 1 hour lesson a week. At present the KS3 areas of study include Games, Fitness, Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, Orienteering within the winter terms, and the successful candidate would be expected to teach in all of these areas.

The department has enjoyed recent success in:

  • Hockey National Finalists U16
  • Hockey Regional Finalists U14
  • Hockey County Finalists U12
  • Netball County Finalists U14
  • Netball County Winners U12
  • British Schools Gymnastics Milano National Finalists U16
  • Trampolining Regional South Finalists U16

As a department we offer a wide variety of extra-curricular activities for all to attend with help from other members of staff within the school, as well as from sports prefects and pupil volunteers. Pupils throughout the school both enjoy, and are actively involved in, sporting and fitness activities; the school has a strong ethos of recognising and celebrating its sporting activities and achievements alongside a range of cultural and community pursuits.

If you would relish the opportunity to join TWGGS and get involved in this busy, happy community, application is by completion of the application form available on our website, accompanied by a letter stating why you feel your strengths, skills and experience best fit you for this post. Deadline for applications: 9am Wednesday 30 April with interviews week beginning Tuesday 6 May. Applications will be urgently considered on receipt. If you have not heard from us by 24th May, please assume that, unfortunately, your application has not been successful. We would like to wish you well in your future career whether at TWGGS or elsewhere.
