We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Clerk for our Governing Board. We have an active, strong team of foundation, parent and staff governors who are committed to their role and our school.

The role involves:

  • taking accurate minutes during meetings, ensuring that detailed notes of discussions, decisions and actions are recorded.
  • preparing and distributing meeting agendas and papers ahead of time.
  • facilitating smooth communication – both formal and informal – between Board members, the school and other interested parties.
  • an interest in education and being able to support the Governing Board in fulfilling their individual and corporate roles.
  • advising on and willingness to undertake training in compliance and governance matters.
  • be a Trustee and act as Secretary for the school’s Voluntary Fund and Governors’ Fund charity.

Across the year, each of the four committees meet as follows:

Steering Committee: 6 times (once each half term)- usually mid-afternoon (2.30-5.30pm)

Learning and Development Committee: 4 times – usually mid-afternoon (2.00-4.30pm)

Resources Committee: 3 times – usually early morning (8.30.-10am)

Admissions Committee: 1 time- usually a virtual meeting at an agreed date/time to suit the small committee

All Governors attend the Full Governing Board meetings 5 times – usually early evening (5.30-7.30pm)

With attendance at the meetings, preparation and follow up work, we anticipate this role needs someone able to commit approximately 200 hours a year.

Salary FTE £26,393-£27,713

Previous experience of Clerking is not essential but some experience of working in a role where accuracy in recording meetings would be very useful. It is vital for our Clerk to be computer literate and confident to use/train in using Office365 for communication and information sharing.

Information about the school

We are a thriving, one form entry school within an idyllic village setting with excellent road connections. The school has close links with St. Botolph’s Church, Chipstead village, and Chevening House. We have been graded as Good by OFSTED (2019) and Outstanding by church SIAMs (2017) inspections.

Chevening children are enthusiastic and enjoy learning. The staff team is diligent and dedicated to providing the best education for the children.

We are inspired by the Parable of the Mustard Seed (Matthew 13: 31-32): “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” and aim to provide an excellent education by being

  • true to Christ and His teachings.

  • known for kind and thoughtful actions and attitudes.

  • inclusive in serving, sharing and showing God’s love to benefit all.

This Biblical Vision underpins our discussions, decisions and direction; our school values are well-established and alive in all we do. We are seeking individuals who can uphold this ethos.
