Are you passionate about creating a safe, nurturing environment for our children to learn and grow? We are looking for a dedicated, self-motivated and enthusiastic Caretaker to become an integral part of our school community.

As Caretaker at Laddingford, you will not only be responsible for managing and completing the overall maintainence of our unique school site (building and grounds) to ensure its safety, security and condition, but also be encouraged to work on a 1-1 level with some of our pupils who thrive in the outdoors and love completing hands on jobs.

Our caretaker is a crucial member of our team, often working alone but hugely valued by the staff and wider community. We are looking for someone who uses their initiative and will look after our school and site.

We are looking for someone who...

  • is friendly, positive and hardworking
  • is well-organised and uses their initiative
  • has maintainence experience (ideally in a school or similar setting)
  • has an understanding of health and safety requirements
  • can turn their hand to DIY both indoors and outdoors

What we can offer you

  • 10 hours per week, 52 weeks a year (some flexibility around term time holidays)
  • 7:15 start with the responsibility of opening up and ensuring the site is safe
  • A requirement for you to be on site for a minimum of an hour and a half each day, with the additional hours banked and used at your convenience.
  • A friendly, hardworking and passionate team
  • Amazing children and a unique small school in the heart of the Kent countryside
  • Direct links to Maidstone, Paddock Wood and Tonbridge
  • Continued professional development, including relevant health and safety qualifications
  • Potential for additional hours in school holidays if jobs with larger time scales are required e.g painting

Involvement in the wider life of the school

  • Support in the daily running of the site from other services the school employs, such as cleaning contractors, tree maintenance services, fire alarm/fire safety services, electrical inspections and site equipment inspections
  • Support with the safe running of Friends of Laddingford School events

The successful candidate will be committed to maintaining our building and grounds to the highest standard offering our children the best possible learning environment.

Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact the school office for an appointment.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Information about the school

Located on the picturesque rural outskirts of Maidstone, Laddingford St Mary’s is a smaller-than-average primary school easily accessible from Barming, Marden, Paddock Wood, and Tonbridge.

Inspired by the parable of The Lost Sheep, we ensure that every child is valued and supported—our vision of welcoming everyone, building strong foundations, and leaving no one behind guides every decision we make.

At Laddingford, we cultivate a happy and vibrant learning environment where both children and staff are excited to grow and explore. Our goal is for students to leave us equipped not just with knowledge, but with essential skills for lifelong learning, such as inquisitiveness, independence, and a positive mindset. As a result, our pupils are enthusiastic, hardworking, focused, and confident learners.

We are dedicated to achieving academic excellence for all while nurturing the unique talents that make each child special.

Though we are a small school, our numbers are steadily increasing. With the recent opening of our bespoke Early Years provision in February 2024, we can accommodate over 100 children, including our nursery. This creates a close-knit community where everyone feels like family—children enjoy whole-school trips and happily interact across year groups during playtime and lunch.

We also take great pride in our unique off-site Forest School provision. Our recent SIAMS inspection highlighted that “Forest School provides a rich and unique experience, helping pupils develop self-worth, perseverance, teamwork, and confidence."

This is an exciting time to join our wonderful little school. The recent addition of a new headteacher and leadership team means as a new team, we are shaping a bright future for our school, where every child is encouraged to explore, discover and excel.

Laddingford St Mary truly is a special place, filled with warmth and positivity that can best be experienced firsthand. If you’re interested in what we offer and believe we could be the right fit for you, we’d love to hear from you!

As a school, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and all staff are subject to DBS checks.
