Charlton Park Academy is a Special Academy for students with complex, low incidence special educational needs. As a Teaching Assistant Apprentice you will;

Receive training bespoke to the setting.
Develop an understanding of how to actively support the class teacher.
Build confidence supporting SEN.
Contribute to planning, class activities and team meetings.
Access to an in-school mentor.
Fantastic CPD opportunities and in-house training

Specific Duties Include:

  • Support children’s learning through play.
  • Help plan, adapt, and organise learning activities for children according to their needs under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Deliver learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils under the professional direction and supervision of the class teacher.
  • Support pupils’ social and emotional well-being, recognising signs of distress in children and offering reassurance, and reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate.
  • Promote the pupils’ inclusion within the school, their independence skills in communication, learning and social skills.
  • Carry out administrative duties, such as preparing and clearing up learning space and resources, including photocopying, filing, display making and presentation of pupil’s work, and contribute to maintaining a safe environment.
  • Responding to individual needs by personalising resources for an individual or a small group.
    Support the teacher in managing disruptive and challenging behaviour in line with Charlton Park Academy’s Behaviour Management Policy and promote positive behaviour around the school.
  • Assist in the management and administration of medication and medical intervention. (Training will be provided)
  • Assist pupils with eating, dressing, and hygiene, as required, whilst encouraging independence.

Location: Charlton, London

Duration: 22 Months (Including 3 months for the End-Point Assessment)

Working hours: Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.30pm. Term-time only. 40 hours per week.

(Post is for 5 days per week, 38 weeks term time, plus 5 days INSET and plus 5 additional training days).

Key Requirements:

Residency in the UK for the past 3 years and eligibility to work in the UK.
Aged 16 or above.
Achieved a C/4 at Maths and English GCSE or the Level 2 Functional Skills Equivalent.
