Creativity is at the heart of all we do at St Peter’s and there is the rare opportunity for an inspiring Art Teacher to join our team in September.  You must know that you are already a great art teacher who wants to develop into a truly inspirational one in the next phase of your career.

Art is a real strength at St Peter’s. We hold the Platinum Artsmark and were judged by Ofsted to be Outstanding when they visited last year – a visit that included a deep dive in Art.

You will work alongside our Arts team with music, dance and drama specialists to provide our children with a rich and integrated curriculum. There is a genuine team approach to all we do at St Peter’s. You will be an important part of the Arts Team – whether that is planning an Arts week, working with our Young Arts Leaders or bidding to maintain that Platinum Artsmark.

We truly value the Arts. You will have a bespoke Art Annex which is genuinely an incredible space to work – and we also have our own dance and drama Studio.

Art is taught to each year group every week as part of our PPA timetable and the contract will be for delivering these lessons on a Wednesday and Thursday each week. We have a topic-based approach to our learning and each year group has a new topic each term – with the art skills and knowledge being taught in the context of that topic. It is really important to note that while Art is already established as a strength at St Peter’s there is huge scope for our new art lead to literally make their own mark and develop the curriculum, the wider curriculum and the Art Room in new and exciting ways.

We have a strong creative curriculum, an innovative Mathematics Mastery approach, are building on our Reading for Pleasure initiative through the Power of Reading programme from the CLPE. Music, Art, Drama and PE are all taught by subject specialists and our children thrive academically, sportingly, dramatically, artistically, socially and spiritually.

At St Peter’s we genuinely believe that everyone is a learner and all our teachers commit to refine their practice through joint lesson studies, educational research and continued professional development.

Our standards and expectations are high, and yours must be too.

Set in its own leafy grounds between Broadstairs and Margate, St Peter's is a three form entry junior school, rightly judged as Outstanding in all areas. Our Headteacher, Tim Whitehouse, is also the Executive Headteacher at Chislet and Hoath Primary Schools, and collaboration is at the heart of what we do. We expect candidates to visit the school and we look forward to showing you what we have to offer.

Information about the school

Our Ofsted inspection in May 2023 judged St Peters to be an outstanding school in all areas and for the last four years we have been amongst the highest achieving schools in the local area. We pride ourselves on our strengths in art, music, sport and drama where our specialist teachers and performance spaces enable children to really excel.

Although the school was established in 1694 our present building is much newer, having been opened by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1998. We have good links with our local secondary schools. The majority of our children join us in Year 3 from Callis Grange Infants with whom we have a linked admissions policy but also have children from other schools joining us.

We have a warm and caring environment where all children, parents and staff work together as part of a positive learning culture, which enables our children to grow and learn in an atmosphere of true care and respect and develop into young people of whom we can be genuinely proud. This is through the combination of high quality teaching and pastoral care, rooted in our strong Christian values. These values and traditions help children to gain an understanding of society today and help us to prepare them well for life in modern Britain.

Our ‘all round’ curriculum means St Peter’s children flourish academically, artistically, musically, dramatically and on the sports field. We work hard to help each and every child to fulfil their potential as we believe that there is success in every child.

St. Peter's Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy, available on our website.
