Post of Geography – Part time 0.5 to 0.7 FTE

Are you passionate about geography, human and physical, and looking to work in a department of likeminded individuals? Due to the promotion of the current post-holder, Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School is seeking to appoint a part time teacher of geography (approximately 0.5-0.7 FTE) from September 2024 to join our highly successful team.  Applicants must have a degree in Geography.

We welcome applications from talented individuals who will dedicate themselves to the implementation of the school and department’s vision and the continued development of the geography department.

This role is suitable for either an Early Career Teacher (ECT) or somebody already teaching but ambitious to develop their career further. The successful candidate must be confident in teaching up to A Level (specialism in physical geography would be desirable) and possess a wider love of geography and its importance in students’ understanding of the modern world. An interest in, and experience of, the development of super-curricular opportunities, including fieldtrips, would be highly desirable; the department currently run two successful residential fieldtrips to FSC centres in Year 11 and Year 13.

The geography department is currently comprised of three specialist teachers, located together in adjacent rooms in our humanities block. At GCSE, approximately 100+ students are currently undertaking the course, with 30+ studying it at A Level.

Many students (often upwards of 50% of each cohort) leave the department to undertake geography related courses at top universities, with a consistently high number progressing to Oxbridge, Russell Group and other top-20 universities.

Our school places the same importance on academic excellence as it does on mental wellbeing and the development of non-examined skills. Teachers are given the opportunity to develop and lead research opportunities; previous and current projects have been/are supported by the likes of the Royal Society, major pharmaceutical companies and top universities. These projects feed into the rich and varied offer delivered through the Langton Extended Curriculum, working to ensure that we help shape ambitious, confident, independent and creative students, ready to take their place in society.

If you have a passion for geography that you want to share with motivated and committed students, we welcome your application.

Our curriculum:

We currently follow the A Level AQA and GCSE Eduqas A course

If you require further information please e-mail Mrs Elaine Wall, H.R. Manager ewall@langton.kent.sch.uk
