We are seeking to appoint dynamic school leaders to join our ambitious school. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and be key to the success of our school’s continual development. 

Oakley School is an ambitious school that continually strives to develop excellent outcomes for pupils and their families. The school is the Tunbridge Wells district Special School for pupils, aged from 3 to 19 years, all of whom have profound, severe and/or complex needs (PSCN).

We have an opportunity for dynamic, enthusiastic and hardworking Assistant Headteachers to join our friendly, positive and collaborative team from September 2024, as we continue our journey towards excellence. 

The successful candidates will play an integral part in the Leadership Team, working with and supporting the school’s vision by leading, managing, supporting and developing pupils, staff and our school community. In addition to the duties expected from a member of the school’s Leadership Team the successful candidate will have specific responsibilities for:

Designated Teacher Looked After Children, inc. government grants and funding (PP).

Professional Lead for Explore Learning Pathway  

Strategic Lead for Phase 4 (Post 16 - based Tonbridge Site)

Quality of Education (Phase 4)

Safeguarding Lead for Phase 4

Work Experience Coordinator 

Professional Lead for Futures & Destinations

Professional Lead for Accreditation/Outcomes    

 

 

  • to demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive principles, support our ethos of providing a safe and positive environment for all our children and young people, enabling them to reach their full potential and develop their skills for life and independence
  • have excellent knowledge, expertise and experience of working with children and young people with SEND
  • be an excellent teacher and role model with a proven track record of supporting pupils’ progress
  • have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to adapt to different situations
  • have strong leadership experience with the confidence and ability to hold others to account
  • have the ability to build and develop excellent working relationships with all stakeholders
  • have personal drive, resilience and be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • to lead by example in setting a strong commitment to raising a culture where pupils experience a positive and enriching school life
  • deliver whole school and specific training as required
  • to work with and support the Governing Body
  • from time to time any other task that may be required by the Head Teacher

Information about the school

Oakley School is the Tunbridge Wells District Special School for day pupils, aged from 3 to 19 years, with a specialist Observation and Assessment Nursery for 3-5 years. All our children and young people have profound, severe/complex needs and communication and learning difficulties.

We have a site in Tonbridge which caters for our Phase 4 (16+) students and a site in Tunbridge Wells which caters for children and young people from the age of 3 to 16. We also have a satellite provision at Skinners' Kent Primary School. Our one-day Section 8 OFSTED inspection in March 2019 reaffirmed us as 'Good'. We aspire to be outstanding in all that we do.
