Turner Schools is offering an exciting, unique and rewarding opportunity for a dedicated teacher to further develop their skills and deliver an exceptional education for our Nest provision at Turner Free School.

The Nest provision provides a bespoke curriculum for a small group of between 6-10 pupils with EHC plans who are working predominantly at key stage one levels for English and Mathematics. We currently have one Year 7 cohort and a new cohort will join us in September 2024.

The teacher will work closely with our Director of Nurture, Director of SEND and curriculum leads to adapt, refine and deliver a secondary curriculum that will engage and inspire the pupils, developing their reading, writing and mathematics whilst ensuring they have opportunities to participate in all curriculum areas.

We are looking to attract a colleague with experience, knowledge and understanding of either key stage 1 & 2 or delivering a core subject at key stage 3. The successful applicant will have a proven track record of improving outcomes for children working below age expectations and a particular strength in supporting pupils with SEND.

The role will require experience of working with children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities and a desire to further develop this. Experience of delivering different interventions such as phonics and reading intervention is desirable but not essential.

Information about the school

The Turner Free School is an academically ambitious and inclusive school for 11-18 year old pupils in the Cheriton area of Folkestone. In other words, it is a grammar-style school for everyone. As a smaller than average secondary school, all pupils are known and educated as individuals. The school has a knowledge-led curriculum, organised along the principles established by Professors Michael Young of the IOE and E.D. Hirsch of the University of Virginia, to ensure all pupils receive the knowledge they need to thrive in the modern world. In addition, to give pupils a leading edge for further education and employment, modern foreign languages are emphasised, with the aspiration that all pupils will achieve a working standard by the time that they graduate from the school.
