We are seeking to appoint a full-time Teacher of Design and Technology (Maternity Cover Contract) who can deliver high-quality learning opportunities for our students. Applications are welcomed from both experienced and Early Career Teachers (ECTs). The successful candidate will be joining a thriving department as our students head into Year 10 for the first time, as we opened our doors to our founding cohort in September 2021. As such, there would be opportunities for the successful candidate to have some input into shaping our KS4 offer and curriculum, alongside our existing highly dedicated specialist teachers. We prioritize teacher development within our DT department, and work collaboratively with ICT to deliver a high quality curriculum at KS3. Therefore, we are looking for creative individuals who can bring their own ideas and energy to the role. Our department is very well resourced, with access to high end machinery including a state of the art kitchen, Textiles equipment, laser cutter and 3D Printers. The department also has access to a shared Technician.

Our ideal candidate will start from September 2024 and will be prepared to teach across all disciplines of technology but it would be desirable for our successful candidate to have a specialism in either Textiles or Engineering, as this would complement our existing team most. However, applications will be considered from all specialisms.

What we are offering:

  • A salary commensurate with the profile of the post
  • Bespoke CPD with mentoring and coaching opportunities
  • The opportunity to work laterally across a number of Leigh Academies Trust schools to benchmark best practice and to be involved in teaching and learning innovation

We’d like to hear from candidates who are:

  • An excellent teacher who is passionate about learning and has strong subject knowledge
  • Able to maintain a positive growth mindset despite challenges they may face
  • Collaborative, able to build strong professional relationships
  • Able to motivate and inspire students and staff to achieve their full potential
  • Energetic and have a can-do attitude
  • Confident and has strong career aspirations
  • Committed to safeguarding and the happiness and wellbeing of everyone at the Academy
  • Prepared to be involved in leading co-curricular activities either within or outside of their teaching subject
  • Committed to accessing the support from the Trust to improve their digital skills in preparation for becoming Level 1 Certified Google Educators

This is a fixed-term opportunity offering a MPS/UPS commensurate with experience.

Note that whilst the position is offered on a maternity cover basis initially, every effort will be made to offer a substantive position thereafter, either at Leigh Academy Rainham or within the wider family of academies across Leigh Academies Trust.  The central Recruitment Team will keep in touch with you throughout your contract to discuss options available to you.
