The John Wallis Academy are seeking to appoint an ambitious and highly motivated SENCO to work with pupils and staff in our Upper School (years 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13)We are looking to appoint a highly motivated individual with experience of being a SENCO to take up an exciting opportunity in our Upper School. The post holder is integral to the transition process for pupils coming from our Middle School and transitioning on to post 16. The post holder will need the drive and ambition to share our passionate belief that every young person should have the opportunity to realise their full potential; to be encouraged to raise their aspirations; and to have the opportunity to learn in an environment that is safe, inspired and guided by the our key Christian LIGHT values of Love, Integrity, Generosity, Hope and Tolerance. We seek a motivated individual with the ability to continue our amazing work closing the gap between our pupils with SEN and our general pupil population, inspiring and guiding colleagues with the drive to shine our LIGHT values with unwavering determination to achieve the best outcomes for our amazing pupils.

Qualities, Skills and Experience - To be considered for the position:

  • Hold a good honours degree or equivalent and a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE);
  • Experience of working as a SENCO or with SEN pupils in a specialist setting
  • An understanding of the statutory and legal requirements around SEND
  • Have or is willing to work towards achieving the NASENCo Award
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development relevant to the role.
  • A can do attitude that promotes positivity and a solution focussed approach
  • Demonstrable ability to secure high standards of learning and behaviour by motivating, encouraging and engaging pupils and staff
  • Demonstrable ability to build effective working relationships with a range of colleagues and stakeholders, including parents/carers, teachers and external professionals.
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills suitable up to and including senior managers.
  • Experience of involvement in effective school improvement
  • Experience of leading a team and providing support and feedback to colleagues.
  • Able to credibly challenge established assumptions and ways of working and make a valuable contribution to influencing organisational culture.
  • Empathetic, tactful and diplomatic.
  • Solution focused, working collaboratively and collegially with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - necessary for analysing school, local and national data and developing appropriate strategies and interventions.
