We are looking to appoint a Governor to work collaboratively with our team to be a champion of Whitehill Primary School and Nursery as well as the wider community; to offer support, to be a critical friend and ask appropriately challenging questions. In essence to be an advocate for the life chances of children within the school.

This is a voluntary role. Governors have six meetings per year, there is an expectation to have read’ documents sent in advance for the meetings. These meetings usually take place in the evening once the school day has finished. In addition, our Governors are required to carry out supported monitoring visits 1-2 times per year. These take place during the school day.

Our Governors are required to complete an induction programme, annual safeguarding training. They are given access to a range of online training materials that may be useful to and support them in their role.

Our Governors receive invitations to school events on an ad-hoc non-compulsory basis.

You do not need any special qualifications, we just want you to bring a real passion for supporting every child to achieve and succeed. You may have life or professional experiences and expertise that provide the school with a different insight to their work.

The role requires that the successful candidate has:

  • People skills - an ability to converse with educational professionals and fellow Governors;
  • An ability to challenge constructively and help find solutions;
  • An appreciation of the value of education.
  • A commitment to the safeguarding and the promotion of children’s welfare. The post is subject to checks in line with this commitment including an Enhanced DBS Disclosure check.

We encourage applications from all members of society, regardless of background, culture, gender, ethnicity, disability, or age (as long as you are over 18) and we really do look forward to hearing from you.

Link to our website whitehillprimary.com for more information about our school and the expectations on a memeber of the LGB.

To apply, please write to the Chair of Governors, Mr Gary Outred. Please state why you would like to be considered for this role and what experience you would bring in your letter of application. Please mark your letter FAO Gary Outed and email it to Claire Finch, Clerk of Governors. Her email is: clairefinch@governence@gmail.com
