Our caretaker is a crucial member of our team, often working alone but hugely valued by the staff and wider community. The successful candidate will be physically fit, communicate well, and work both independently, identifying their own priorities, and as part of the team.

The position is for 10 hours per week, term time only. These hours can be flexible and will be discussed during interview. We would require a minimum of an hour and a half on site each day, which equates to 7.5 hours per week. The remaining 2 and a half hours can be taken flexibly, to suit both the caretaker and at times the needs of the school - for example you may be asked to come back to lock up after an event, to unlock and lock up for a contractor, or undertake larger jobs, such as painting, during the school holidays.

The caretaker's duty is to undertake routine procedures, including health and safety checks such as water and fire alarm testing. Beyond this the bulk of the role is site maintenance including odd jobs around school, gardening and mowing the lawns.

This job would suit someone who can turn their hand to a range of DIY indoors and outdoors and is willing to undertake all relevant health and safety training. The successful candidate will be committed to maintaining our building and grounds to the highest standard offering our children the best possible learning environment.

If you have any questions or want to arrange a visit to the school, please contact the office.

Information about the school

Located on the picturesque rural outskirts of Maidstone, Laddingford St Mary’s is a smaller-than-average primary school easily accessible from Barming, Marden, Paddock Wood, and Tonbridge.

Inspired by the parable of The Lost Sheep, we ensure that every child is valued and supported—our vision of welcoming everyone, building strong foundations, and leaving no one behind guides every decision we make.

At Laddingford, we cultivate a happy and vibrant learning environment where both children and staff are excited to grow and explore. Our goal is for students to leave us equipped not just with knowledge, but with essential skills for lifelong learning, such as inquisitiveness, independence, and a positive mindset. As a result, our pupils are enthusiastic, hardworking, focused, and confident learners.

We are dedicated to achieving academic excellence for all while nurturing the unique talents that make each child special.

Though we are a small school, our numbers are steadily increasing. With the recent opening of our bespoke Early Years provision in February 2024, we can accommodate over 100 children, including our nursery. This creates a close-knit community where everyone feels like family—children enjoy whole-school trips and happily interact across year groups during playtime and lunch.

We also take great pride in our unique off-site Forest School provision. Our recent SIAMS inspection highlighted that “Forest School provides a rich and unique experience, helping pupils develop self-worth, perseverance, teamwork, and confidence."

This is an exciting time to join our wonderful little school. The recent addition of a new headteacher and leadership team means as a new team, we are shaping a bright future for our school, where every child is encouraged to explore, discover and excel. We are also very proud to be one of 750 schools in the country that is running the DfE Early Adopter Free Breakfast Club Scheme.

Laddingford St Mary truly is a special place, filled with warmth and positivity that can best be experienced firsthand. If you’re interested in what we offer and believe we could be the right fit for you, we’d love to hear from you!

As a school, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and all staff are subject to DBS checks.
