Due to the retirement of our current Caretaker we are now looking to appoint a proactive, friendly and skilful Caretaker to join our team. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and highly committed who will ensure that our children learn and our staff teach in a safe, clean and healthy environment.

The successful candidate will:

  • Take a pride in their work and pride in making the school look its best
  • Ensure health and safety is a priority at all times, carrying out risk assessments, checks and reports as required in conjunction with the Headteacher and Office Manager
  • Be able to work independently, using their own initiative, including prioritising health and safety, workloads etc
  • Manage the school building and in-house grounds maintenance ensuring that the highest standards of cleanliness and health and safety are maintained at all times
  • Have good basic DIY skills (plumbing, decorating, gardening and carpentry) and undertake a range of repairs, maintenance, decorating, some moving and lifting of heavy objects, and a variety of gardening and outdoor work 
  • Ensure that the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained at all times by working alongside our cleaner
  • Be responsible for site security and have key holder responsibility including any out of hours call outs
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism when interacting with the children, staff, parents and members of the wider community.

This post is 32.5 hours per week, all year-round position Monday to Friday.  The 2 shifts per day are from 5:30am to 9:00am (some flexibility with start time) in the morning and from 3pm to 6pm. This is not a term-time only contract so some work will be over the school holidays . Holiday entitlement is 27 days and after 5 years of service 29 days.

Information about the school

Bapchild and Tonge CE (Aided) Primary School and Nursery is a one form entry through primary school with 214 pupils currently on roll and a popular Nursery with up to 24 places per session. The Nursery was added to the school in January 2021 and has been working hard to invest in new toys, resources and improve the room environment. The school is on the outskirts of Sittingbourne and part of the Rural Swale Collaboration Group (RSCG) of schools. Parents and children describe the school as having a friendly atmosphere and our pupils enjoy coming to school. Our Ofsted inspection (July 2019) said that the school is good and commented that there 'is a strong sense of community which permeates the school, providing care and support for pupils, their families and staff'. SIAMS in February, 2017 graded us as Outstanding overall.
