We are seeking to recruit an outstanding Lead Practitioner to meet the needs of young adults with learning difficulties or disabilities.

As a Lead Practitioner, you will work closely with the teaching staff to support our students in all aspects of their learning, social development, personal needs and developing their skills for independence and employability.  In this role you will be able to make a big difference to our young people, all of whom have a wide range of severe and/or complex needs, with associated communication and learning difficulties.

You need to be able to engage and enthuse our young people and help prepare them for adulthood.  You don't need experience of working in a special needs or education environment, although it would be advantageous, as would experience of college or work-based learning.  Excellent literacy and numeracy skills are essential, along with a "can do" approach, flexibility, resilience and strong communication and team working skills.

Information about the school

The Oaks Specialist College is a registered ‘Outstanding’ provision based in Tonbridge, set up to meet the needs of young adults aged 18-25 with learning difficulties or disabilities (LLDD). From September 2025, we are expanding our provision and are excited to welcome young adults with physical disabilities.

Our aim is to complement and work alongside existing providers in the area, to ensure that the needs and aspirations of all LLDD young people can be met locally. We work with a range of local businesses to enable our learners to seek employment and play an active role in their community.

We have varying levels of needs and offer learning programmes to learners who require a multi-sensory curriculum to learners who undertake a programme of study and work-related learning and experience that will lead to further vocational training, internships/apprenticeships and employment.
