You will work closely with our Speech and Language Therapists and wider therapy team consisting of an Occupational Therapist, Art Therapist, Counsellor and Therapy Assistants. You will be required to work across different educational settings including mainstream and specialist provisions. As part of the Therapy Team, you will support in minimising and removing barriers to education for our learners who have a range of needs such as Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Autism Spectrum Conditions, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder and Social Emotional Mental Health needs.

Training will be provided to the right candidate, however the following knowledge and skills are desirable:

Knowledge:

  • Some knowledge about what different types of therapy can offer
  • Knowledge of a range of special educational needs and disabilities
  • Knowledge of specific interventions, programmes and monitoring

Skills:

  • Able to communicate effectively with a range of professionals, parents/carers and the young people themselves
  • Proactive – able to work flexibly, show initiative and manage your own workload
  • To be able to follow the direction and advice of a qualified therapist by adhering to therapy programmes and seeking support when required
  • A level of literacy skills which would enable you to write coherent therapy notes and communications via email
  • Ability to work within a team
  • A positive work ethic
  • Able to motivate and inspire children and young people especially during difficult times

Experience:

  • Experience working in an education or therapy environment
  • It is desirable to have some experience of working with children and young people with Autism and/or other Special Educational Needs
  • Proven positive record of meeting deadlines and expectations within a specific role

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To work under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist to meet the therapeutic needs of learners
  • To work flexibly across Trust schools
  • To deliver therapy programmes as directed by/under the supervision of a therapist
  • To keep accurate and timely records of therapy sessions in line with school therapy policies and guidance
  • To notify the supervising therapist when expected progress is not being made or when another professional opinion is required
  • To work effectively with children and young people to help them to engage in sessions
  • To attend and contribute to therapy meetings to support the development of the team
  • To liaise with other professionals as required, e.g. NHS Therapists
  • To run individual/group interventions and to provide short review reports
  • To ensure external therapy reports from the National Health Service (NHS) are filed appropriately and shared with relevant class staff
  • To upskill and support class staff in meeting learner’s therapy needs in class

Please note that the post-holder must be able to travel between trust schools so access to a car is essential.
