A fantastic opportunity has arisen within our Food and Nutrition department.

The Food Department is located in the brand-new school building, which opened in September 2021. The food room is spacious, with air-conditioning and induction hobs and blast chiller. There is an additional theory area in the room with interactive whiteboard. The Food department is supported by an exceptional full-time Food Technician. Additionally, the location of the Food department means students have easy access to the brand-new IT rooms for NEAs.

The Food and Nutrition Department aims to develop its students’ curiosity and understanding of the world around them through the products they use and the food they eat. The ‘hands-on’ practical aspects of the course serve to develop students’ skills and confidence with ingredients and kitchen equipment. In Year 7 students study Food and Nutrition for one hour a week for six months, learning good hygiene practices, hob skills, basic preparation and knife skills. This is developed in greater depth in later years. In Year 10 students begin their GCSE course content, which is hugely popular and last year obtained 100% 9-6 , 48% 9-7.
