We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic History Teaching Assistant to work under the guidance/instruction of designated teaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for all students and to assist the teaching, learning and behaviour of all students in the classroom. Support may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area under the guidance of teaching staff.

At Maplesden we take a proactive approach to developing and supporting staff, so if you are a history graduate or even part way through a degree course, and are committed to making a real change to young people's lives through teaching then please apply. We are committed to supporting our staff every step of the way to achieve their aspirations.

All Teaching Assistants at the school have the opportunity to develop themselves further. Successful candidates will have access to the unique and bespoke in school training throughout the year in addition to opportunities to attend training via our Local Authority partners. TA’s also have access to surgeries with the SENCO and Specialist Teaching Service to enhance their skillset according to the challenging needs of students.

As a flexible employer we welcome applications from those seeking full or part time hours.

Although this contract is initially until August 2024, as it is subject to the continuation of higher needs funding, it is highly likely to continue beyond this date.

For this role applicants must have evidence of a high standard of literacy and numeracy (i.e. GCSE English and Maths Grade C/4 or above). GCSE History at this level is also desirable.

Hours are 33.75 per week from 8.15am – 3.45pm Monday to Friday (inclusive of a 45-minute lunch break).  Term time only plus staff development days/twilight hours.

The current salary range for this role is £20,142.00 - £20,606.00 per annum – full time equivalent. Please note that the school operates a review of salaries in September of each year and as such, the salary range may be subject to an increase in September 2023, although precise details have not currently been agreed.

Further information is also available to view on the attached job description and person specification.

Applications should be made via Kent Teach by the closing date of Friday 29th September 2023 (8 am).  This date may be brought forward in the event that suitable candidates are found earlier.  Early applications are therefore recommended.

Information about the school

Maplesden Noakes is an 11-18 co-educational non-selective school. The school has an excellent reputation, is popular with parents and regularly over-subscribed. Having been recently accredited as a High-Performance Learning World Class School, we believe that all of our pupils have the potential to achieve the very highest standards of performance no matter what their background or previous achievement.

Maplesden Noakes is situated on the west side of Maidstone approximately 40 miles south-east of London. The school benefits from having strong links with the local business community.

Passionate about the wellbeing of staff, the school supports good physical health and mental wellbeing. With a staff Wellbeing Policy now in place, this highlights the importance placed on a good work/life balance. Our wellbeing committee are regularly thinking of new ways to support all staff in this area with wellbeing afternoons, flexible working and financial wellbeing high on the agenda.

We believe passionately in equity and diversity. Our school is committed to embracing the lived experience of people of every race, sexuality and gender. We believe strongly in giving everyone the opportunities they deserve, no matter what social barriers may have held them back in the past.

We are committed to the professional development of all staff and offer excellent CPD, whether in house or by external providers. All teaching staff have a laptop for use at school and home.

The governing body has recently amended the school admission policy to ensure that staff who have been employed by the school for two or more years and/or are recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage, receive preference in terms of admission to the school for their child(ren).

We look forward to receiving your application.
