Teaching Assistant

Employer: Riverside Primary School – part of Rainham Mark Education Trust

Salary: Medway NJC scale D2 point 4 – 11 (£21,189 to £24,054 FTE) pro rata to £15,562.14 - £18,093.16 per annum, 32.5 hours per week Mon-Fri, term time only, including 5 days for Staff Development Days.

Location: Riverside Primary School, St Edmund’s Way, Rainham, Kent ME8 8ET

To start – as soon as possible

We are a popular, mainstream community school, which is part of Rainham Mark Education Trust. The school had a good Ofsted Inspection in November 2019, and was recognised as being Outstanding in the areas of Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development. The key values held by our school community add to the success and inclusive nature of the school.  These values are Curiosity, Happiness, Aspiration, Respect, Articulacy, Community, Teamwork, Equality and Resilience – ‘Character’.

The school has two integrated special provisions for a small number of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder or Visual Impairment, who are taught in the mainstream classes with appropriate support.

We are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to work under the direction of teachers, to support teaching and learning across the Key Stages, from Foundation Stage to Year 6. This may involve working with a class or supporting a high-needs child on more intensive basis to provide 1:1 support. They may also be expected to deliver intervention programmes under the direction of the Inclusion Manager.

The successful candidate will have NVQ Level 3 teaching assistant qualification or equivalent or be willing to work towards this. Experience of working with children with Autism and/or Speech and Language difficulties would be an advantage, as well as understanding children with different behavioural needs.

They will have a sense of humour, a positive attitude and enjoy working as a proactive member of a team of teachers and assistants who put children at the centre of everything they do.  A desire to help children overcome barriers to learning is essential.

In return, we can offer you:

  • amazing children, who are ‘Happy, Helpful and Hard-working’
  • opportunities to work across the primary sector as part of a growing school
  • ongoing professional development with a particular focus on inclusion
  • a supportive, dynamic and fun staff team
  • excellent grounds and facilities.
  • a benefits package through the Trust, including Benenden Health Care

This school is committed to recruiting with care and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS Check at the appropriate level will be required prior to any offer of employment and this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

A visit prior to application is highly recommended – please telephone 01634 338700 to make an appointment.  If you would like to be considered for the post, please submit a Support Staff application form, which is available on the Trust website  https://www.rmet.org/vacancies  to recruitment@rmet.org  for the attention of the Headteacher, Mrs Helen Robson

Closing date for applications:  28th September 2023 at Midday – we reserve the right to close the application process early if enough applications have been received.

Previous applicants need not apply.
