The post is for 20 hours p/wk, term time only (38weeks p/yr) 9am - 1pm with some flexiblity to allow the successful candidate to do their own school run if required.

We are looking for:

  • A Teaching Assistant to support an individual within the classroom or in small groups
  • Someone with a sense of humour and a rady smile who is able to appreciate the joy in our learning community and engage with our supportive parent/carers
  • Ideally someone with GCSE maths and English or equivalent but we can be flexible.
  • Ideally someone with some experience of supporting children with SEND but training will be provided.

We are able to offer:

  • Flexible working e.g. attendance at school plays/sports day etc.

  • A small class of less than 20 pupils with a full-time teacher and class TA in addition to SEND support staff
  • Support and guidance from middle and senior leaders

  • Excellent school facilities including a sports hall and a forest school, where opportunities for high quality outdoor learning are facilitated

Please use Kent's Online Application Form if you are interested in this vacancy.

We welcome visits to the school where you can meet the class and the staff team and learn about how we work to support all our pupils to achieve to the best of their ability.  Alternatively, we are happy to discuss the role on the phone.  Please just call the school and ask to speak to Michelle Crowe, the Head of School.

Although, this is for an immediate start, we are happy to wait for the right candidate.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

This post involves working with children and therefore if successful you will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service records check at an enhanced level and have satisfactory references. We are committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery.

Information about the federation

Newington CEP School and Lower Halstow School are single form entry village Primary Schools for children aged 2 - 11 and 4-11. Both have close links with their village church and community and spacious school grounds. Our schools offer a safe secure learning environment and are well equipped with a variety of resources and healthy budget for projects.

Newington was extended in 2000 with 4 additional classrooms and library and the original building has been fully renovated with the addition of an outdoor classroom and MUGA. It has an on-site nursery building catering for pupils from 2 years old. Lower Halstow School moved into its present building in October 2005 and offers many modern facilities such as a sports hall, running track, outdoor classroom, ICT suite & separate dining hall.

We have supportive governors and parents and our pupils are happy, polite, enthusiastic and are proud of their school. We are constantly striving to improve the opportunities for all and are always looking for new ways to make learning engaging and effective. Both schools have been graded Good in inspections in March and May 2019. Please read our reports to get a feel for our ethos or look at our X (twitter) feeds @NewingtonCEP or @lowerhalstowsch.

We are committed to ongoing professional development and our staff regularly access local and regional training. The schools work closely together to reduce workload and support well-being and both schools have a commitment to allowing flexible working wherever possible.
